CTI Surface Comparators for Steel Castings 2012 : ASTM A802 set (31 comparators) - ‘FULL SET’ (48 comparators) - ‘PRECISION CASTINGS’ (14 comparators and a copy of BS 7900:1998), [ "SCRATA comparators for the definition of surface quality of steel and iron castings", ASTM A 802 Shorter Set., “SCRATA surface comparators for the definition of surface texture of precision steel castings”, precision set. - Castings Technology International was formed in April 1996 following the merger of Cti (formerly SCRATA – the Steel Castings Research and Trade Association) and BCIRA – the British Cast Iron Research Association).

Castings Technology International was formed in April 1996 following the merger of Cti (formerly SCRATA – the Steel Castings Research and Trade Association) and BCIRA – the British Cast Iron Research Association).
SCRATA was originally founded in 1967, and BCIRA dates back to 1924, so the current expertise within Cti builds on over 100 years of combined knowledge and experience.

Defects can have a wide range of causes and consequences. However, very few defects are presented to Castings Technology International (Cti) that haven’t already been seen before. This enables rapid identification of the defect source, with recommendations given with regard to their elimination.

Surface Comparators for Steel Castings

Cti has developed a series of kits used by purchasers of steel castings to specify their surface quality requirements more accurately. The surface comparators come in two categories:

- Surface comparators for the definition of surface quality of steel castings; and

- Surface comparators for the definition of surface texture of precision steel castings.

Comparators for the Definition of Surface Quality of Castings

Purchasers of castings can specify and assess surface quality and surface texture more accurately and definitively using tactile comparators developed by Castings Technology International (Cti). These provide a practical and functional alternative to photographic representation of casting surfaces in standards such as MSS SP-55-2001.

More than 1000 of these sets of comparators are used around the world by multi-national companies and by small enterprises. The durable plastic comparator plates, actual replicas of relevant characteristics of surface finish, have proved to be a more attractive way of reaching agreement with casting suppliers on the required surface quality during contract negotiations. They also provide a basis for acceptance of the castings after order placement.

ASTM A802 set (31 comparators)

The comparators form the basis of ASTM A802/A802M – 95 (2006) Standard Practice for Steel Castings, Surface Acceptance Standards, Visual Examination. This standard comprises 31 comparators that define features such as:

- Surface Roughness (A)
- Surface Inclusions (B)
- Gas Porosity (C)
- Laps and Cold Shuts (D)
- Scabs (E)
- Chaplets (F)
- Surface Finish – Thermal Dressing (G)
- Surface Finish – Mechanical Dressing (H)
- Welds (J)
- Hot Tears
- Mechanical Dressing - Chipping
( "SCRATA comparators for the definition of surface quality of steel and iron castings", ASTM A 802 Shorter Set).

‘FULL SET’ (48 comparators)

A larger, 48 comparator set applies to ISO 11971:2008 Steel and Iron Castings – Visual examination of surface quality; BS EN 1370:1997 Founding – Surface roughness inspection by visual tactile comparators; BS EN 12454:1998 Founding. Visual examination of surface discontinuities. Steel sand castings. (Companies that already have the ‘short’ ASTM A802 set can upgrade to the larger set by purchasing the 17 additional comparator plates).

‘PRECISION CASTINGS’ (14 comparators and a copy of BS 7900:1998)

A third set of 14 comparators, the basis of BS 7900:1998 Specification for examination of the surface texture of precision steel castings, is applicable to the procurement of steel castings manufactured by precision casting techniques:

- Resin Shell Process (V)
- Lost Polystyrene Process (W)
- Shaw Process (X)
- Lost Wax Process (Y)
- Fettled Surfaces (Z)

(“SCRATA surface comparators for the definition of surface texture of precision steel castings”, precision set).

Venomous Reptiles of the United States, Canada, and Northern Mexico: Crotalus (Volume 2) [Hardcover], 2011, Carl H. Ernst (Author), Evelyn M. Ernst (Author), ISBN-10: (0801898765 ISBN-13: 978-0801898761, 9780801898754)

2011, 424 pp.,
 46 color photos,
104 b&w photos,
 22 maps
Carl H. and Evelyn M. Ernst have completely revised their landmark reference Venomous Reptiles of North America to present the most comprehensive review of these animals in years.

The first volume contains species accounts of the venomous lizards and elapid and viperid snakes found north of Mexico's twenty-fifth parallel. Volume 2 of this definitive work covers the twenty-one species of the genus Crotalus found in the United States, Canada, and, for the first time, those found in northern Mexico.

Mixing their own research with careful data description and intriguing stories, Ernst and Ernst present the most accurate and interesting view of North America's rattlesnakes available. They provide general background information on Crotalus, including venom delivery systems, how rattles function, what rattlesnakes eat, and what eats rattlesnakes. Additionally, they offer specific and fascinating details, such as observations of rattlesnakes swimming to offshore islands, accounts of male combat bouts, possible "anting" behavior in Crotalus viridis, and the features of the Santa Catalina Island rattleless rattlesnake. Each species account includes vivid photographs, range maps, and explanations of the limits to their respective distribution.

Presenting the latest research on venomous reptiles in the United States, Canada, and northern Mexico and featuring an extensive bibliography of literature on the subject, this volume contains a wealth of information for anyone with an interest in venom, snakes, or herpetology in general.

"A well written and detailed reference book... covering topics of great interest to both reptile enthusiast and the professional herpetologist alike."—Daniel P. Madigan, Indianapolis Zoo

"This book has more information on these reptiles than I have ever seen in a book. Carl Ernst and Evelyn Ernst were great in compiling the information to make this book into an amazing and informational read. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars."—Cybertron Reviews

"These volumes are an essential purchase for academic and large public libraries, and a very worthwhile acquisition for smaller libraries."—Frederic F. Burchsted, American Reference Books Annual

"The second volume of the comprehensive herpetology referenceVenomous Reptiles of the United States, Canada, and Northern Mexico is a 'must' recommendation for any college-level science holding serious about herpetology."—Midwest Book Review

"Venomous Reptiles of the United States, Canada, and Northern Mexicois a valuable source of information for anyone interested in these species, and is sure to be a standard reference for serious herpetologists."—Steven Winchell, ReptiliaCarl H. Ernst, professor emeritus at George Mason University and a research associate at the Smithsonian Institution, is coauthor ofTurtles of the United States and Canada, also published by Johns Hopkins. Until her recent retirement, Evelyn M. Ernst taught high school chemistry and biology and was an administrator with the National Science Resources Center. The Handbook of the Birds of the World is the first work ever to illustrate and deal in detail with all the living species of birds. When Volume 16 is published in 2011, it will be the first work to verbally and visually portray each member of an entire Class of the Animal Kingdom.

Material in each volume is grouped by families, with an introductory text on general aspects of the group, generously illustrated with colour photographs. This is followed by individual species accounts and their accompanying colour plates illustrating all species, including all significant sexual and subspecific differences, of all of the families covered. In addition, all volumes contain a foreword on a particular ornithological theme.

Volumes average 600 pages of full-colour content and deal with 500 to 800 species, with 60-plus plates, hundreds of photographs and distribution maps, and thousands of references. So far, 14 volumes have been produced. New volumes appear at roughly annual intervals, and are collected by scientific organizations, birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts in over 150 countries.

ACGIH Modern Industrial Hygiene, 3 Volume Set - Three-Volume Set; ISBN: 978-1-607260-50-9 Copyright © 2012 ; (Now Available!) Jimmy L. Perkins Publication Combo.. (Volume 1 — Recognition and Evaluation of Chemical Agents, 2nd Edition - ISBN: 978-1-882417-75-9 - Volume 2 — Biological Aspects - ISBN: 978-1-882417-48-3 - Volume 3 — Control of Chemical Agents) - ISBN: 978-1-607260-47-9 - American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists,

This three-volume set bridges the gap between the classroom and the practice setting. All three volumes are well illustrated, contain over 1000 references each, and contain questions at the end of every chapter that should leave the reader with a sense of the important concepts of the chapter and cause the reader to probe deeper into the true meaning of what is written. Answers to all chapter questions can be found in an Appendix at the end of each textbook.

The set includes:

Modern Industrial Hygiene, Volume 1 — Recognition and Evaluation of Chemical Agents, 2nd Edition
ISBN: 978-1-882417-75-9
The first volume of a planned multi-volume set, Recognition and Evaluation of Chemical Agents fills the need for both an authoritative, comprehensive textbook, and an up-to-date multidisciplinary resource for the field. The book begins with an overview of industrial hygiene, and leads into discussions of sampling strategy, exposure assessment, statistics, instrumentation, and sampling media. Appendices provide hard-to-find data on vapor pressures and other physical-chemical constants. Its multidisciplinary scope, and emphasis on real-world problems and applications make this a reference of exceptional authority and practical value. New in this edition:

- Chapters have been updated and peer-reviewed.
- Two new chapters have been added: 1) Application of Mathematical Modeling to Estimate Air Contaminant Exposure and 2) Application of Variance Component Models to Exposure Assessment.
- Considerable advances to equipment referenced in the book have been made and these have been updated.
- The references at the end of each chapter have been updated.

Modern Industrial Hygiene, Volume 2 — Biological Aspects
ISBN: 978-1-882417-48-3

The long-awaited second of four volumes, Biological Aspects, contains an eclectic mix of subjects dealing with the biology of industrial hygiene. Jimmy L. Perkins, Editor brings together experts from various fields to cover the following topics:

- The Respiratory Tract
- Respiratory Tract Deposition and Penetration
- Occupational Dermatotoxicology: Significance of Skin Exposure in the Workplace
- The Practice and Management of Occupational Ergonomics
- Biological Agents — Recognition
- Biological Agents — Monitoring and Evaluation of Bioaerosol Exposure
- Biological Agents — Control in the Occupational Environment
- Biological Monitoring in Occupational Health
- Dermal Exposure Assessment
- Epidemiology
- Health Risk Assessment and the Practice of Industrial Hygiene
- The History and Biological Basis of Occupational Exposure Limits

As in Volume 1, the purpose of this volume is to try to bridge the gap between the classroom and the practice setting. Volume 2 is well illustrated, has more than 1,000 references, and contains questions at the end of every chapter that should leave the reader with a sense of the important concepts of the chapter and cause the reader to probe deeper into the true meaning of what is written. Answers to all chapter questions can be found at the end of the textbook.

Volume 1, Recognition and Evaluation of Chemical Agents, and Volume 2, Biological Aspects, offer a strong foundation for industrial hygiene.

Modern Industrial Hygiene, Volume 3 — Control of Chemical Agents
ISBN: 978-1-607260-47-9
In this third and final volume of the three volume set, Control of Chemical Agents, Jimmy L. Perkins, Editor brings together experts from various fields to walk us through the following:

- Overview of Chemical Exposure Controls and Non-Ventilation Controls
- Ventilation
- “Control” at the receiver that encompasses more traditional industrial hygiene features of respiratory protection and skin exposures
- “Control” at the receiver that matures our thinking to encompass quality training, risk communication and behavioral based safety, and
- “Control” that truly stretches our approaches with risk management systems, managing with limited data, control banding and the newer European Union REACh requirements.

As in Volumes 1 and 2, the purpose of this volume is to try to bridge the gap between the classroom and the practice setting, and offer a strong foundation for industrial hygiene.

ISO 16528-1:2007 Boilers and pressure vessels -- Part 1: Performance requirements - Edition: 1 (Monolingual) \ Language English or French \ Paper or PDF

ISO 16528-1:2007 defines the performance requirements for the construction of boilers and pressure vessels.

It is not the intent of ISO 16528-1:2007 to address operation, maintenance and in-service inspection of boilers and pressure vessels.

In relation to the geometry of the pressure-containing parts for pressure vessels, ISO 16528-1:2007 includes welding end connection for the first circumferential joint for welded connections, first threaded joint for screwed connections, face of the first flange for bolted, flanged connections, first sealing surface for proprietary connections or fittings and safety accessories, where necessary.

In relation to the geometry of pressure-containing parts for boilers, ISO 16528-1:2007 covers feedwater inlet (including the inlet valve) to steam outlet (including the outlet valve), including all inter-connecting tubing that can be exposed to a risk of overheating and cannot be isolated from the main system, associated safety accessories and connections to the boilers involved in services such as draining, venting, desuperheating, etc.

ISO 16528-1:2007 does not apply for nuclear components, railway and marine boilers, gas cylinders or piping systems or mechanical equipment, e.g. turbine and machinery casings.

SNCT CODAP 2005 (Division 1 & Division 2) + 2006 Addendum inclued + 2007 Addendum + 2009 Addendum GB - Code for Construction of unfired Pressure Vessels, Edition 2005, [version anglaise - english translation] - Le Syndicat National de la Chaudronnerie, Tuyauterie et Maintenance industrielle

The evolution of the demand to the Manufacturers and the regular modifications in the international, European and French standards have led the SNCT to prepare new editions of the Codes of Construction, reflecting the French professionalism.

Inheriting an already long tradition, the CODAP® has had to be developed in order to facilitate its use within the regulatory context specific to each user. The Code in particular enables one to better meet the requirements of the French regulations and of the regulations from the countries which have transposed the European pressure equipment Directive 97/23/CE into national law.

Consisting of two Divisions, this new edition with international vocation meets the requirements of the future standard ISO 16528.

The Division 1 is essentially intended for the construction of the most common vessels to be manufactured from common materials.

The Division 2 intended for the construction of more complex vessels offers all the possibilities set out in the former versions of the Code, largely supplemented with a great number of innovations.

The purpose of this new edition, reflecting the consensus between the Manufacturers, Users and Purchasers, Inspection Bodies, Technical Centres...., is to enable one to construct the most economic possible vessels meeting the regulatory requirements whilst assuring the best safety level.

This new edition of the CODAP®, the presentation of which has also been modified in order to facilitate its use, should enable the Manufacturers to take up the industrial challenges in the future years.
