Cadernos de Saúde Pública/Reports in Public Health (CSP) is a monthly journal published by the National School of Public Health, Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, Brazil. The journal publishes original articles in the field of Public Health, including epidemiology, nutrition, health planning, vector ecology and control, environmental health, and social sciences in health, among other related fields.

Organ of the Faculdade de Saúde Pública da Universidade de São Paulo, the Revista de Saúde Pública publishes results of original researches, reviews, comments and scientific notes.

The journal is specialized in the several interdisciplinary areas of the public health, with emphasis in epidemiology, and published bimonthly since 1967 in February, April, June, August, October and December.

Some articles have online English version since August 2003.

The abbreviated title of the journal is Rev. Saúde Públ., which should be used in bibliographies, footnotes, bibliographical references and strips.

Revista de Saúde Pública é inter e multidisciplinar e arbitrada. Publica prioritariamente pesquisas originais sobre temas relevantes e inéditos sobre o campo da saúde pública, que possam ser replicadas e generalizadas, e também outras contribuições de caráter descritivo e interpretativo, baseadas na literatura recente, bem como artigos sobre temas atuais ou emergentes, comunicações breves e cartas ao editor.

Os manuscritos devem destinar-se exclusivamente à Revista de Saúde Pública, não sendo permitida sua apresentação simultânea a outro periódico, tanto no que se refere ao texto como figuras ou tabelas, quer na íntegra ou parcialmente, excetuando-se resumos.

Violent conflict and state fragility are major development challenges: conflict causes misery, destroys communities and infrastructure, and can cripple economic prospects. A quarter of states eligible for assistance from the International Development Association (IDA) are experiencing conflict, and poverty rates in these countries are far worse than in IDA countries as a whole. Many other IDA countries are considered fragile, and thereby at risk of violent conflict. Nor is conflict confined to poor countries: a number of middle- and high-income nations are affected by severe sub-national and crime-related violence. Conflict does not respect borders, with serious spillovers from conflict-affected countries contributing to regional destabilization, globalized terrorism, drug trafficking and refugee flows.

Building peaceful nation-states which respond to the aspirations of their citizens takes strong leadership, both international and domestic. The international community has an important role to play in assisting countries to avoid, contain and recover from conflict, and the recent past demonstrates how much can be achieved when global and national incentives align, and program implementation is appropriately designed and well-managed. Too often, though, efforts have failed to decisively address the motives and opportunities which help to mobilize violent conflict; to integrate political, security and development approaches; or to align local, national, regional and global actions. As a result, some areas have seen new waves of conflict and violence in recent years and some “post-conflict countries” have not yet managed to make a decisive shift to successful and stable development.

The goal of the World Development Report 2011 is to contribute concrete, practical suggestions to the debate on how to address conflict and fragility. Since solutions involve cooperation between a wide variety of actors at local, national, regional and global levels, the WDR process will invest considerable effort in reaching out to a range of different players and communities.

The purpose of the BRAZILIAN JOURNAL OF MEDICAL AND BIOLOGICAL RESEARCH is to publish the results of original experimental research that contribute significantly to knowledge in medical and biological sciences.

Preference will be given to manuscripts that develop new concepts or experimental approaches and are not merely repositories of data. Papers that report negative results will require special justification for publication.

Papers that report preliminary results or are only confirmatory in nature will not be accepted for publication. Papers that report negative results require special justification for publication.

Methodological papers shall be considered for publication provided they describe new principles or a significant improvement of an existing method.

Papers in the area of Clinical Investigation should include a statement indicating that the protocol has been approved by the Hospital Ethics Committee where the research was carried out, where at least one of the authors is associated and that written informed consent has been obtained from all persons in the study.

Dewey Decimal Classification and Relative Index DDC 23 2 2011 [Hardcover]

Every seven years, a new print edition of the Dewey Decimal Classification is published. The new edition, DDC 23 is expected in mid-2011; the price for the four-volume set in North America is $399. Abridged Edition 15 and 200 Religion Class are expected to be published in late 2011.

The Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system is a general knowledge organization tool that is continuously revised to keep pace with knowledge. The system was conceived by Melvil Dewey in 1873 and first published in 1876. The DDC is published by OCLC Online Computer Library Center, Inc. OCLC owns all copyright rights in the Dewey Decimal Classification, and licenses the system for a variety of uses.

The DDC is the most widely used classification system in the world. Libraries in more than 135 countries use the DDC to organize and provide access to their collections, and DDC numbers are featured in the national bibliographies of more than 60 countries. Libraries of every type apply Dewey numbers on a daily basis and share these numbers through a variety of means (including WorldCat, the OCLC Online Union Catalog). Dewey is also used for other purposes, e.g., as a browsing mechanism for resources on the web.

The DDC has been translated into over thirty languages. Translations of the latest full and abridged editions of the DDC are completed, planned, or underway in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Icelandic, Italian, Korean, Norwegian, Russian, Spanish, and Vietnamese.
